Food 4 Kids is an outreach ministry of the Church of the Holy Spirit. This program began in 2013 and continues as a partnership between the church, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and other faith-based and community agencies. F4K addresses the hidden need to address childhood hunger on the lower/outer Cape. One in three children on Cape Cod is food-insecure, especially in the summertime when there are no school lunches.
In 2019 we served over 27,000 meals (breakfasts, lunches, and snacks) to children in all eight towns of the lower/outer Cape. Through grants, we gave away 2,500 new children’s books all summer at our meal sites. Over 100 volunteers of all ages help to feed the children — including assembling sandwiches in the kitchen, packing the coolers and delivering them to the sixteen sites, and distributing the meals to the children.
MAY UPDATE – Food4Kids will launch their annual drive for volunteers in May—once the Governor has outlined guidelines for summer activities in the state. Volunteers will once again have the ability to sign up online.
